About GGNI

GGNI offers access to three unique energy networks, tying them together to jointly build relationships with customers and jointly contract energy projects worldwide:

  • GGNI Network of Experts
  • GGNI Network of Companies
  • GGNI Network of Knowledge Institutes

Legal structure
In October 2012, Global Gas Networks Initiative (GGNI), founded by the Dutch energy network operators, initiated by Maria van der Hoeven (then Dutch Minister of Economic Affairs) and Marcel Kramer (then CEO Gasunie), transferred all its rights to GGNI International BV, a privately owned partnership of Dutch Companies active in the natural gas life cycle and value chain.

Vision
Natural gas; a flexible, safe and affordable fuel enabling the use and development of sustainable energy sources. Natural gas is a critical part of energy mix now and in the foreseeable future.

Mission
GGNI, together with its partners, provide uniquely bundled support to governments, authorities, industries and investors worldwide in realising energy projects in which gas plays a role.

GGNI Network of Experts
Their 30+ years of employment by Dutch energy companies enables the GGNI Senior Executives and Senior Experts to oversee and fathom integrated energy projects. They think and share the chemistry of the GGNI Network customers. They enable the GGNI Network, a unique and complementary cluster of energy service companies, to deliver its contracted integrated energy projects to customers’ expectations.

GGNI Network of Companies
GGNI offers access to a unique complementary cluster of Dutch companies for energy issues, all with an excellent reputation and impressive references in their area of expertise in energy. These companies are complementary in covering the energy life cycle and energy value chain.

GGNI and PUM
GGNI has a partnership agreement with PUM, Netherlands senior experts. Sponsored by the Confederation of Netherlands Industry and Employers (VNO-NCW) and by the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs, PUM connects entrepreneurs in developing countries and emerging markets with senior experts from the Netherlands. These senior experts gained at least 30 years of experience in a business environment and voluntarily devote their knowledge to execute short-term, solid consultancy projects on the work floor.

Background
Natural gas provides 45% of the Dutch energy mix. Each year approximately 120 billion m3 of natural gas is transported through the Dutch transport systems. Some 45 billion m3 of natural gas is distributed through the distribution systems of, amongst others Alliander, to households, businesses and industry. Efficiently, safely and reliably. With an impressive 12.000 km of high-pressure pipelines in heavily populated areas, connecting gas wells scattered around the Netherlands to the market (plaatje van het Nederlandse gas). The Netherlands are also the starting point of the Western European gas market. You can see that the Netherlands has the ambition to maintain its role as the European natural gas roundabout. In the Netherlands you will find:
  • a connection with the Russian gas fields via the North Stream Route, connecting them to the British market through the BBL pipeline
  • modern underground gas storages to cope with the daily and seasonal swing and with peak demand
  • a completely upgraded Groningen gas field (3 Tcm) with enhanced recovery and a vast amount of smaller gas fields
  • LNG terminals
  • impressive gas compressor stations
  • 98% of the households using natural gas for heating and cooking
  • natural gas trading hub

Also, by using natural gas, the Netherlands can meet its promises to challenges such as pushing back CO2-emissions, providing sufficient future energy supplies and securing a transition to sustainable energy.

Sharing energy expertise

The natural gas knowledge and experience of the Dutch energy companies have been combined in a unique Dutch organisation, Global Gas Networks Initiative. Dutch Senior gas Experts share their knowledge with governments, , authorities, industry, investors and project developers around the world.
